I AM
I am strong but homeless
I wonder if I’ll ever be part of the outside world
I hear the noise of people laughing and speaking
I see people in their homes warming up by their fires at night
I want live in a home with a family
I am strong but homeless
I pretend I have a job
I feel like I am in my own world
I touch my dirty street cat and whisper, “We will find a home.”
I worry that I won’t have food to eat
I cry silently for someone to help me
I am strong but homeless
I understand people want to avoid me but they also want to help me
I say I am ready to stand up
I dream about a life I may never have
I try to have that life though
I hope for shelter
I am strong but homeless
